U.S. Senator Susan Collins to Deliver Keynote Address

AUGUSTA - The Maine College Republicans will hold the statewide organization’s annual State Convention on Saturday, April 26 from 10:00 AM-4:00 PM. The State Convention will be held at the Sable Oaks Marriott in South Portland. U.S. Senator Susan Collins, who has represented Maine in the United States Senate since 1997, will deliver the keynote address at 10:05 AM.

“I am honored to be hosting the 2008 Maine College Republican State Convention in South Portland this year,” said Nathaniel Walton (Bates ’08), State Chairman of the Maine College Republicans. “This event is going to be a wonderful opportunity for our members to enjoy the company and appreciation of top Republican leaders,” Walton continued.

“Most importantly, the 2008 State Convention is going to be a fantastic opportunity for Maine College Republicans from Fort Kent to Wells to rally together as they prepare to make the crucial grassroots difference that will result in great Republican victories on November 4,” Walton concluded.

The theme of the 2008 State Convention is “Honoring Our Past, Rallying for the Future.” This theme recognizes the remarkable achievements of Maine College Republicans in the last year, which saw the statewide organization recognized by the College Republican National Committee (CRNC) as the “Best State Federation in America.” The theme also recognizes the extraordinary opportunity Maine College Republicans have to play the crucial grassroots role for Maine Republicans in 2008.

The 2008 State Convention speaker roster is a powerful testament to the high regard in which the Maine College Republicans are held by Maine’s Republican leadership. Confirmed speakers include Mr. Anthony Payne, Executive Director of Alliance for Maine’s Future, Assistant Maine Senate Republican Leader Richard Rosen, Maine House Republican Leader Joshua Tardy, Maine Republican Party Chairman Mark Ellis, and Maine’s Republican Congressional Candidates: Mr. Dean Scontras and Mrs. Ruth Summers (on behalf of Hon. Charlie Summers) from the First Congressional District, and Mr. John Frary from the Second Congressional District. Also, State Representative James Hamper will deliver a musical performance.

In addition to scores of Maine College Republicans representing all corners of the Pine Tree State, numerous Maine Senators and Representatives, Republican State Committee members, and countless Republican activists are expected to attend the 2008 State Convention. Maine College Republican State Convention Delegates will be gathering to elect the 2008-2009 Maine College Republican Executive Board.

Chairman Walton is available for interviews/further comments about the 2008 Maine College Republican State Convention. Chairman Walton can be reached by telephone at (207) 240-4549 or by e-mail at chairman@mainecr.org.
