Maine Senate: Tom Allen - a study in opportunism

So far, Tom Allen’s strategy has been to ignore the fact that he has a primary challenger and he’s been pretending that his challenger – Tom LeDue – doesn’t actually exist. Recently Democrats have been waking up to the fact that they actually have a choice for their party’s nominee for U.S. Senate and many are giving LeDue a closer look.

That fact hasn’t been lost on Allen. So in order to align himself more with his party’s activists, Tom Allen finished licking his finger and sticking it in the wind. Yesterday, he walked away from his long-standing relationship with the Clintons and endorsed Barack Obama for president.

The Cost of A Superdelegate

Ever wondered how much it costs to buy a super delegate? According to Ralph Kettell's (Maine CR Communications Director) post on RedState Obama is trying to buy Congressman and Superdelegate Tom Allen's vote with a $10,000 contribution. It would be doubly interesting if Obama succeeds considering Tom Allen and Bill Clinton have been friends ever since they attended Oxford together. Link to Ralph's article on RedState
