U.S. Senator Susan Collins to Deliver Keynote Address

AUGUSTA - The Maine College Republicans will hold the statewide organization’s annual State Convention on Saturday, April 26 from 10:00 AM-4:00 PM. The State Convention will be held at the Sable Oaks Marriott in South Portland. U.S. Senator Susan Collins, who has represented Maine in the United States Senate since 1997, will deliver the keynote address at 10:05 AM.

“I am honored to be hosting the 2008 Maine College Republican State Convention in South Portland this year,” said Nathaniel Walton (Bates ’08), State Chairman of the Maine College Republicans. “This event is going to be a wonderful opportunity for our members to enjoy the company and appreciation of top Republican leaders,” Walton continued.

AUGUSTA - The Maine College Republicans have an impressive roster of candidates running for state legislative office this fall. In a testament to the continued strength of the Maine College Republicans, six members of the statewide organization have decided to run for the Maine State Legislature. Each of these candidates has plans to actively reach out to district voters by canvassing neighborhoods, distributing campaign literature, and attending local civic events over the next several months.

The following College Republicans are candidates for the Maine House of Representatives in the legislative districts listed below:

District 6 (Blaine, Bridgewater, Easton, Fort Fairfield, Mars Hill, Westfield): Tyler Clark (UMPI ’08)

Maine Delegation will be One of Nation’s Largest at Washington, DC Conference

AUGUSTA - The Maine College Republicans announced today that the statewide organization is bringing a delegation consisting of 90 students from 15 Maine colleges/universities and high schools to the 2008 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). The conference will take place in Washington, DC from Thursday, February 7 to Saturday, February 9. Students from Bates College, Bowdoin College, Colby College, Husson College, Kennebec Valley Community College, Saint Joseph’s College, Thomas College, University College of Bangor, University of Maine, University of Maine-Augusta, University of Maine-Farmington, University of Maine-Fort Kent, University of Maine-Presque Isle, University of Southern Maine, and Lewiston High School will be attending CPAC. This year will mark the sixth consecutive year that the Maine College Republicans have brought one of the nation’s largest college delegations to the conference.

The statewide organization’s new website, which can be found on the Internet at http//www.mainecr.org, provides an impressive combination of new media capabilities, original content, and user-friendly interactive features.

One of the most prominent features of the new Maine College Republican website is its diverse array of new media capabilities. Visitors to the site now have the ability to watch videos produced by the Maine College Republicans and other political groups, view photos of the statewide organization’s recent events, and to become part of the Maine College Republicans’ presence on popular social networking sites. These features are made possible by the direct linking of the Maine College Republican website to new media sources such as YouTube, Flickr, and Facebook.
