Women's Coalition
The Women’s Coalition exists primarily to encourage and advocate women’s participation in the Maine College Republicans. Female members have been strong volunteers and leaders in the organization, and with that in mind, we decided to create this coalition to spur further female involvement. The Women’s Coalition seeks to promote networking among female members at different colleges and universities, in addition to hosting a few annual social events around the state for women.
In order to do this, we plan and host women’s events. During the year to date, we have focused on recruiting new female members and have created a comprehensive database for the Women’s Coalition. In November, the Women’s Coalition had its first event in Portland: a dessert & cheese night. We have several other fun social events planned for the year, including a bowling event and possibly an overnight trip to Sugarloaf. A very gracious member has offered to host a weekend getaway for the Women’s Coalition in her condo at Sugarloaf and another member is working on getting donated lift tickets for the event. Besides these social events, we also are looking at having a luncheon with one of Maine’s popular female senators.
